Landfill & Recycling

The Department of Solid Waste Management operates a landfill and 12 citizen convenience sites distributed throughout the county.  The landfill is situated on a 200-acre County property that is shared with the Animal Shelter, Fire & Rescue and the Sheriff's Office.  Over 60 acres are designated to hold waste, with other areas set aside for recycling operations, equipment maintenance and leachate management.

The department operates a recycling center at the landfill, where recyclable and reusable materials are processed. Plastic, cardboard, paper, tin and aluminum are baled, while electronics, scrap metal and appliances are loaded in bins, all materials are taken to recycling facilities.  Brush and wood are shredded into mulch and rubber tires are sent off site for chipping.
