About Shenandoah County Fire & Rescue

Shenandoah County Department of Fire and Rescue (SCFR) is a combination emergency services system proudly serving the residents and visitors of Shenandoah County, Virginia. SCFR was established in 1998 at the foresight of the Shenandoah County Board of Supervisors. The Board of Supervisors could see a need in the future for paid personnel to supplement the volunteer organizations in order to provide the best service to our county residents and those that pass through the county in their greatest time of need and emergency.

Our system is made up of 12 volunteer fire and rescue companies supported by dedicated volunteers, uniformed career personnel, and administrative staff working together to provide emergency response services.

Covering approximately 512 square miles and serving a population of nearly 45,000 residents, comprised of 12 volunteer stations across 13 departments strategically located throughout the county to ensure rapid and reliable response.

To enhance service delivery and maintain continuous readiness, Shenandoah County provides 24/7/365 county-funded staffing at nine stations:

  • Conicville Volunteer Fire Department

  • Fort Valley Fire Department

  • Edinburg Volunteer Fire Company

  • Orkney Springs Fire & Rescue

  • Mount Jackson Rescue & Fire

  • New Market Fire & Rescue

  • Strasburg Volunteer Rescue Squad

  • Strasburg Fire Department

  • Woodstock Rescue Squad

Toms Brook Volunteer Fire Department and Woodstock Fire Department operate as fully volunteer organizations.

Through strong collaboration between volunteer and career personnel, SCFR remains committed to protecting lives, property, and the community we proudly serve.
